Servicing and supporting devices and technologies associated with the printing and document imaging industry requires extensive training to ensure qualified, able technicians. With the focus on hard copy output and imaging growing in large enterprise settings and expanding into the SMB marketplace, coupled with the rapid growth of the convergence of multi-function devices, it is becoming increasingly vital that any repair activities on these devices occur in an efficient manner. Color products, with their level of complexity, are becoming more commonplace, and as price points continue to decline, the requirement to raise base-level competency on imaging and output devices is critical. Manufacturers and service providers alike are looking to reduce training costs while improving skills fluency in the repair of their product sets.

Printing and document imaging industry members of CompTIA expressed a need for a vendor-neutral certification. CompTIA certifications (such as CompTIA A+, Network+ and CDIA+) are known throughout the IT community as one of the best ways to break into the information technology field and build a solid career. CompTIA certification programs can also help build a skilled and dependable workforce, leading to greater customer satisfaction and best business practices

CompTIA has developed a printing and document imaging certification to validate a technician’s knowledge and skills of printers (inkjet, laser, dot matrix, thermal and solid ink), LED, multi-function products (MFPs), scanners, fax machines, copiers, digital, networking, connectivity and color theory. The certification launched in early 2008.

All gtslearning courseware for CompTIA PDI+ has been developed specifically for delivery in the classroom and approved through the CompTIA Authorized Quality Curriculum (CAQC) programme.
